A PLAN to put Castle Hill Showground “on the map” and attract big acts has been opened to expressions of interest.
The Hills Shire Council is looking for a consultant to conduct community consultation and prepare a detailed masterplan for the upgrade and revitalisation of the showground.
The council aims to provide more space for cultural activities, passive recreation and leisure, performing arts and major events.
The Hills Mayor Michelle Byrne said the showground had been a community gathering point for 130 years.
“(The) Hills is growing and with the opening of Sydney Metro Northwest, as well as an increase in density around the train stations, this very much-loved recreational precinct needs to be reimagined to provide more leisure, passive and recreational opportunities for residents going into the future,” Cr Byrne said.
“The master planning process will look at how we can rejuvenate the community asset to capitalise on the surrounding development and a high-frequency train line.”

Cr Byrne said the council would retain relationships with current community groups while also supporting the need for more green space with a growing population in The Hills.
“This plan is about putting the showground on the map, so that it can be a destination which will not only draw big acts, events and activities to our shire, but become a place where families and friends can come together, enjoy a great day out and make memories in the process,” Cr Byrne said.
