What does The Hills look like in the future?

A HIGH-RISE Bella Vista seniors housing development has been given the go-ahead after a spirited Joint Regional Planning Panel meeting.

On Thursday, the panel approved the multi-storey residential buildings that will be nestled inside the Circa Precinct, near Norwest Hospital.

The application outlines a 144-bed residential aged care facility with green space, a communal craft room and hall to accommodate up to 300 people for tenant’s birthdays or any other celebrations.

At the August 9 meeting of The Hills Shire Council, councillors voted to have the B7 business park zoning modified to include seniors housing.

This would allow the Mulpha Norwest residential application to be suitable for the site.

Several residents who live near the approved development were not pleased with the result.

Bella Vista resident Phil Adams said it was “not a democracy” for allowing this development to proceed.

The seniors housing will be available to buy and rent for people aged 55 and over with services nearby, including a nurses station and a proximity to the hospital.

These services will be paid for through management fees each resident must pay when moving into the Norbrik Drive complex.

When the person living in the accommodation dies, the keys would be handed back to the operator to use for the next tenant.

Mulpha Norwest general manager Tim Spencer said there would be a screening process and questionnaire to ensure the dwellings could only be purchased by people aged 55 and over to prevent younger people from securing the spot as an investment property.

Mr Spencer said the average age of people living in retirement villages was around 76 years old.

The mixed-use Circa Precinct is expected to generate up to 25,000 jobs when completed.
