The AFLW stars of the future put their talents to the test this month as the 2019 AFL Women’s Under-18 Championships took place on the Gold Coast.
Among the players in action at the elite competition were Kellyville-based East Coast Eagles players Emily Hurley, Brenna Tarrant and Georgia Garnett, who took to the field as part of the East Coast Allies squad.
The girls were in fine form throughout the tournament as they helped the Allies to one win from their three matches against some very strong competition.
Tarrant was a particular standout as she frequently made her presence known on the defensive side of the ball.
“The Gold Coast didn’t disappoint,” Tarrant said.
“I’ve been in the state team for three years now and playing at this level always gives me a buzz.
“I always get excited to pull on a (NSW/ACT) Rams or Eastern Allies guernsey.
“The weather was perfect and the games were nothing short of a great time.”
Tarrant hopes that her effort at this year’s National Championships will soon pay off with an AFLW debut.
“My main aspiration like many is to become an AFLW player and the past three years of this championship have taught me so many new things,” she said.
“I’ve now built my footy brain and skills up to a new level I wouldn’t have thought I could have.
“Any girl who gets to play in this carnival is lucky and will get to enhance their skills and knowledge to a future AFLW level.”
