Daniel Joseph Luland pleads not guilty to intimidating Police Minister David Elliott at Baulkham Hills

A man who allegedly stalked and filmed NSW Police Minister David Elliot in Sydney’s northwest will fight the charges.

A man who allegedly filmed Police Minister David Elliott near his electoral office at Baulkham Hills will fight the charges against him.

Police allege 36-year-old Daniel Joseph Luland approached the senior politician as he was walking along Old Northern Rd on Friday, August 20 at 3pm, when he questioned him and allegedly verbally abused him while capturing it on his mobile phone.

Mr Luland is accused of following Mr Elliott into the Grove Square shopping centre. A 47-year-old man attempted to intervene before he was allegedly verbally abused as well.

Shortly later that evening, The Hills detectives attended Mr Luland’s unit on Old Northern Rd, Baulkham Hills just after 5pm, and arrested him.

He was taken to Castle Hill police station and charged with two counts of stalk/intimidate intend fear physical harm (personal), and not comply with noticed direction re s 7/8/9 – Covid-19 for failing to wear a mask.

The man was granted conditional bail to appear at Parramatta Local Court in August when an interim apprehended violence order was made.

Mr Luland’s matter was listed for mention at Parramatta Local Court on Tuesday when he was excused from attending but a not guilty plea was entered and the matter was adjourned for hearing at the same court on April 22.

His bail was continued.
