Covid vaccination rates revealed for every Hills aged care facility

Shocking new data has revealed the vaccination rates for staff across every aged care facility in the Hills, including one home in which only half are fully vaccinated.

NSW premier 'agreed' to mandate vaccinations for aged care workers

Only half the staff at a major aged care facility in the Hills District are vaccinated against Covid, it can be revealed.

New data from The Department of Health, which was shared on Monday morning, shows the percentage of staff who have had their first vaccination at each aged care facility in NSW.

While most aged care homes in the Hills District had a rate of 80 per cent and higher, Anglicare’s Donald Coburn centre had one of the lowest staff vaccination rates in the area with a rate of 10-19 per cent, according to the data.

An Anglicare spokeswoman claimed the data was outdated on the Department of Health’s website and claimed 81 per cent of staff have now had their first dose and 53 per cent are fully vaccinated.

“Why does the new website not reflect accurate and up to date information?” The Anglicare spokeswoman said.

A Department of Health spokesman said: “On 22 August 2021, the department published an interactive map which shows the workforce vaccination rate for residential aged care facilities across the country at health.gov.au.

“The workforce vaccination data displayed on the interactive map is as reported by aged care providers as at Wednesday 18 August 2021.

“The map displays data reported through the My Aged Care provider portal and will be updated weekly (Wednesdays), in line with the mandatory reporting requirements for providers.”

It comes after NewsLocal yesterday revealed the shockingly low vaccination rates at a Normanhurst facility from which two residents died at the weekend.

The virus was brought into the Greenwood Aged Care facility by an unvaccinated aged care worker.

Only 55 per cent of staffers had received their first dose of the vaccine when the worker tested positive.

The outbreak was contained to the dementia ward where only nine of the 14 residents had received two doses of vaccine.

“A total of six residents have been diagnosed with COVID-19,” A North Sydney Local Health District spokeswoman said.

“All positive patients are residents of the 14-bed dementia unit within the facility.

“Four of the positive cases were not vaccinated. Nine out of the 14 residents in the dementia unit had received two doses of vaccine.”

Greenwood Aged Care’s general manager Maeve Tumulty said the majority of residents had now been fully vaccinated and an on-site clinic will be set up to vaccinate remaining staff members.

Meanwhile, eight aged care homes in the Hills had achieved staff vaccination rates of 90-100 per including Moran Kellyville.

A Moran Health Care Group spokeswoman said employees were supported to get vaccinated as part of the facility’s emergency response plan.

“As an organisation Moran Health Care Group have spent a great deal of time and resources on vaccination education, and have dedicated team members in each of our home to booking and organising vaccination appointments for residents and employees,” she said.

“We continue to appeal to everyone living, working, and connecting with our resident communities to have the vaccination for the greater good.”

Aged care workers were among the first people to be offered the Covid vaccine but in some areas take up of the jab was worrying low.

The government has now declared that from September 17 residential aged care workers must be vaccinated against COVID-19 as a condition of employment.
