Castle Towers redevelopment: work underway on metro link, fresh food precinct

Castle Towers is currently working to complete a $1 billion redevelopment, with stage one underway. See what work has been done to link the retail precinct to the new Metro.

Construction of a new international fresh food marketplace and underground Sydney Metro link at Castle Towers is underway — with dozens of new specialty stores and food outlets expected to open by Christmas.

Castle Towers management, QIC, has commenced stage one of a billion dollar redevelopment of the centre, which launched with the developers retrofitting a previous car park at the centre into a contemporary new marketplace and pedestrian link.

Centre manager Eddie Paynter said retailers — including Coles — remain open as refurbishment continues.

“Other retailers still open as usual include fresh food offerings from Costi’s Seafood, Dolcettini and Sushi Hub, as well as services such as Chemist Warehouse, Mister Minit, Lawrence Dry Cleaners, Vintage Cellars and The Reject Shop,” Mr Paynter told the Hills Shire Times.

“We’re also hosting our Fresh Food Market Days every Saturday on level 1, with great activities including cooking demonstrations, product samples, food inspiration and fresh food specials from our fresh food retailers and Coles.”

Mr Paynter said work under Old Castle Hill Rd is also approximately 80 per cent complete, which will enable to connection from the fresh food precinct to the Metro station.

“We’ve already seen some fantastic new retailers open recently across the Centre, including brand-new stores for Boost Juice, Bonds, and Australia’s first OPSM to exclusively stock Gucci, as well as a new offering from the very colourful educational toy store Kidstuff,” he said.

“We have also recently opened our beautifully refreshed amenities for the Piazza and

near Myer on level 3. Featuring an appealing contemporary design, this ongoing upgrade for our bathroom facilities is continuing across Castle Towers throughout the redevelopment project.”

A $1 billion redevelopment has been proposed for the Towers, which features an outdoor retail precinct, expansion of the Cinema complex and revitalisation of the Piazza precinct.

Meanwhile, a separate proposal for a series of residential and commercial skyscrapers on top of the retail precinct were revealed in August, 2018.

The proposal calls for the development of two residential towers, 20 and 32-storeys high, as well as two commercial office towers ranging from 17 to 18-storeys and two high-rise hotel towers ranging from 13 to 24-storeys in height.
