Castle Hill man defrauded of $5000 by fake bank employees

Two 20-year-olds who allegedly pretended to be bank employees defrauded an elderly man living in a Hills retirement village. The men are now facing court.

Two 20-year-olds allegedly posed as bank employees and defrauded an elderly man living in a Castle Hill retirement village of $5000.

Police will allege in court that the two men pretended to be from a bank and told the elderly man, 86, over the phone that his card had been fraudulently accessed.

Police will allege they then collected the card and access pin from the man at his home before making purchases to the amount of $4537.

In January, the elderly man reported to The Hills police that his bank account had been fraudulently accessed a number of times on January 3 and 4.

A 20-year-old man will appear before Burwood Local Court today charged with nine counts of dishonestly obtain financial advantage and deal with identity information to commit indictable offence.

He was refused bail after being being arrested on March 3 from his house on Railway Pde, Burwood about 3.15pm.

A 20-year-old man of an Ashfield address appeared before Burwood Local Court yesterday, after he was arrested at 10.50am on March 3.

He was charged with four counts of dishonestly obtain financial advantage by deception.

He was granted conditional bail at court yesterday and will return to court on April 17.

Investigations into the incident are ongoing.
