AN ELDERLY man who was pushed to the ground and kicked next to a bus stop in Castle Hill in a shocking incident involving two teenagers could be charged alongside his attackers.
Video has emerged of a 70-year-old man being assaulted by two teenage boys outside Castle Towers shopping centre about 8.50pm on Saturday, August 18.
The video has been widely circulated on social media.
A group of girls who can be heard yelling “no” in the video intervened during the incident.
Police said the man, who suffered a cut to his head and a fractured cheek, refused to be taken to hospital after the incident and was dropped home by paramedics. However, he was later admitted to hospital to be treated for his injuries.
Police confirmed they have spoken with the two boys and the elderly man and all three of them could face charges.
The Hills police commander Superintendent Rob Critchlow said there was more to the incident than what appeared on the video.
“There is a likelihood that some or all of them will be charged with various offences,” he said.
“Other CCTV gives a wider, more comprehensive view of all the lead up events and the incident itself.
“The consumption of alcohol by some of the parties appears to be relevant.”
A NSW Ambulance spokesman said they arrived to find the 70-year-old man conscious outside Castle Towers.
The spokesman said the man got back to his feet unassisted following the incident and suffered a cut to his head.
NSW Police told news.com.au the elderly man was from Cherrybrook and the incident took place following an argument.
Police have urged the public to refrain from vitriol and threats on social media against the parties involved, and to leave the incident to police.
Police may also look at taking action against the business that supplied alcohol to one or more people involved in the incident.
The incident happened only a few minutes walk from Castle Hill police station.
