During the day, the Purple Chilli Cafe serves coffee, sandwiches and the usual fare — but at night it is transformed into something entirely different.

Kebabiya, an Indian street grill restaurant, opened a month ago in the same space as the cafe and has already grown a loyal following for its traditional take on Indian kebabs.

The menu includes three types of types of biryani, with chicken, goat and vegetarian options from $16.

The kebabs — ranging in price from $18-$29 for an average of four pieces — are marinated for more than 24 hours in Kebabiya’s blend of spices and cooked to order.

The result is layers of exploding flavour.

The restaurant, on Level 1 of the Sky City building, can be tricky to find but it is worth the hunt.

For those new to Indian street grill, the platters for four is the best way to be introduced to the cuisine.

At $99 for the meat platter or $89 for the vegetarian, a selection of kebabs are served with sauces, salad and roti or naan.

For individual dishes, the biryani (from $16) and Chandani Gosht goat curry ($22) are both excellent.

The restaurant also offers catering and takeaway options, and holds happy hours specials on Fridays from 5pm.
