A childcare centre for more than 150 kids could soon be on the way to a newly established suburb in Sydney’s northwest.
Childcare Specialists Australia Pty Ltd has lodged a development application with the Hills Shire Council, proposing to build a childcare centre at 8 Janpieter Rd in Gables, a Hills District suburb only established in 2020.
The centre would be open from 7am to 6pm on weekdays, and would cater for a maximum of 152 children aged up to five.
Development plans show the planned single-storey centre would take up 5447 sqm of the 10-hectare lot on which it is proposed to be built.
It would have several indoor play areas, with an outdoor one at the rear of the site and 52 parking spaces for staff and parents.
A statement of environmental effects report, compiled by Think Planners on behalf of the developer, said the centre would take advantage of the site’s size and location.
It was described as being “in the vicinity of the new Box Hill high-density residential precinct, local schools and employment areas within the wider locality”.
“The development also aims to provide an attractive single-storey building within a landscape setting, which will play a positive role in increasing valuable childcare
places within Gables,” plans stated.
A bushfire assessment report was required because the council’s bushfire-prone land map identified the site as having certain types of vegetation.
However, the report, completed by Building Code and Bushfire Hazard Solutions, found there was enough protection for the application to be supported.
