Fairy Meadow: Teenagers charged over alleged brawl over vapes and alcohol

A group of teens have been charged over an alleged brawl over alcohol and vapes in the Illawarra. Here’s what we know.

Three minors have been charged over an alleged brawl over alcohol and vapes in the Illawarra last week.

Police allege two men were sitting on a park bench at Fairy Meadow Surf Club before being approached by three men and a woman about 10pm on Thursday.

The two men on the bench were allegedly threatened with a knife by one man demanding alcohol, cigarettes and vapes.

It is alleged an 18 year old man was punched and kicked in the head before the group fled to nearby Thomas Dalton Park in Fairy Meadow.

Paramedics treated the 18-year-old for serious head injuries, before he was taken to Wollongong Hospital where he remains in a critical condition.

Following inquiries, a 23-year-old was arrested on Squires Way, Fairy Meadow on Saturday and charged with causing grievous bodily harm with intent, affray, causing actual bodily harm in company and common assault.

The man appeared before Wollongong Local Court on Tuesday and was refused bail. His matter was adjourned to April 17.

Wollongong police also arrested two teenagers – a 14-year-old boy and 16-year-old girl – on Saturday.

The boy was charged with causing grievous bodily harm with intent, affray, causing actual bodily harm in company and common assault.

The girl was charged with causing grievous bodily harm with intent, affray, assault occasioning actual bodily harm in company and common assault.

Police also arrested a 16-year-old boy in Thornleigh on Monday and charged him with causing grievous bodily harm with intent, affray, causing actual bodily harm in company and common assault.

All three teenagers were refused bail with the matters before the Children’s Court.
