UPDATE:

TERRORISM has been ruled out in the horrific stabbing at Bonnyrigg High School this morning.

The teacher and two students stabbed in this morning’s incident at Bonnyrigg High School have non-life threatening injuries.

Fairfield police commander Supterintendent Peter Lennon confirmed at a press conference at Fairfield police station this morning the incident involving a teacher and three students was not terrorism-related.

Supt Lennon said it was a “localised issue” and a “one-off”.

“I’m sure we will get to the bottom of the reasons why,” he said.

Supt Lennon also confirmed the injuries to the victims, before closer examination by medical staff, appeared to be single stab wounds.

“They weren’t very deep, thank goodness,” he said.

He added classes had resumed at Bonnyrigg High School though the classroom where the incident occurred was a crime scene and had been closed pending further examination.

He said the student who allegedly carried out the stabbings was not known to police and had not come to the attention of the school principal previously.

Supt Lennon said the Education Department would be looking after the welfare of students and teachers.
