Fairfield police are investigating after a dramatic video of a truck pushing a hatchback through a busy intersection in Sydney’s south west has gone viral.
Car horns and squealing tyres can be heard in a 22-second video of a semi-trailer pushing the small white hatchback on a major road in Smithfield.
The shocking video was uploaded on January 13 and has already been viewed 249,000 times on Facebook page Only in Guildford and thousands of times on Instagram.
Recorded from a vehicle behind the truck, it shows the semi-trailer pushing the smaller car along the the Cumberland Highway, travelling at about 70km/h, while squealing tyres and car horns can be heard.
“This guy hasn’t even realised,” the man recording the video says.
Pushing the hatchback forward from the driver’s side door, the truck crosses a major intersection, where Long St cuts through then highway.
The semi – which does not have a trailer attached – merges into the left lane thereafter, but the video cuts out before it is known if it then comes to a stop.
It is not known if anyone was injured in the incident.
The incident is being investigated by Fairfield Police, a NSW Police spokeswoman confirmed.
“We believe it happened on the same day (as the video was uploaded)”, Inspector Michael Waltis said.
“There’s nothing to suggest any road rage from what I’ve seen … At the worst somebody would get a fine.”
