Evolutionary upgrades could be made to Cabravale Leisure Centre after Fairfield City Council greenlit the formation of a plan to investigate its future.
Fairfield City Mayor Frank Carbone proposed allocating $150,000 to the development of a ‘master plan’ for the leisure centre at Tuesday night’s council meeting. The motion passed with unanimous support from councillors.
The master plan would provide a blueprint on how the centre is managed, used and developed in the coming years, Cnr Carbone said.
“Fairfield City has one of the highest numbers of people living with a disability in NSW. We have an ageing community and many of our residents are living with significant health issues,” he said.
“This is an exciting project that will provide specialist services to meet the needs of members of our community.”
Cabravale Leisure Centre has been a place where the elderly, disabled and recovering could frequent since it opened in September 2007. It currently features a modern gymnasium, a 20-metre heated pool, a sauna and a room for aerobics.
The options explored under the masterplan would build on the services available to its existing clientele. It would consider adding a hydrotherapy pool, spa, sauna, specialised gym, counsellor’s rooms, short term accommodation and an improved cafe.
Currently, Fairfield City Council is taking expressions of interests from consultants and architects to help prepare the master plan. It is estimated that the master plan will be finished by late 2019 or early 2020.
