IT WAS pretty early for a schooner, but that didn’t stop dozens turning up at The Warwick, at Cabramatta, to watch Triple M broadcast its morning programs from the pub.
The Grill Team with Mark “MG” Geyer, Matty Johns, Gus Worland, Emma Freedman and Chris Page were on deck from a chilly 6am on Friday, presenting the program before an eager crowd of western Sydneysiders.
Geyer said it was a great celebration of their western Sydney fanbase.
“We don’t want to play down our other listeners from the city, but when it comes to The Grill Team lots of our fans come from western Sydney,” Geyer said.
“We have to cater to them more.”
As a proud western Sydney resident himself, Geyer said it was important to acknowledge what the area needed and wanted.
“People in western Sydney just want to be respected,” Geyer said.
“Sometimes people frown upon us because of where we are from and we want to break down those perceptions — I think people from the west are among Sydney’s best.”
Listeners were encouraged to tell their other halves they were just “popping down to the shops” as a way of making time to drop in and see their favourite radio hosts in action at the pub.
“It was a fantastic day,” Geyer said.
“We haven’t been out here for a long time and it’s such a good pub — one of the best.”
Geyer thanked the guests and staff at The Warwick and the Holiday Inn for accommodating them throughout the event.
“We want to do this more often,” the former rugby league player said.
Triple M’s other programs, including The Chaser and Merrickville, also broadcast from The Warwick during the all-day event. The broadcast included live performances from Sarah McLeod of Superjesus and indie rockers Birds of Tokyo.
