A tradie admitted his driving could have killed someone after being caught driving more than three times the blood alcohol limit during a midnight spin, in which his wild swerving antics terrified nearby homeowners.

A tradie admitted his driving could have killed someone after being caught driving more than three times the blood alcohol limit during a midnight spin, in which his wild swerving antics terrified nearby homeowners.

Thanh Tri Tran, 38, appeared before Liverpool Local Court on Wednesday and pleaded guilty to high range drink driving after police pulled him over at Gilbert St, Cabramatta on July 15.

Agreed facts state a resident watched Tran “swerving down the road from one side to the other”, which saw her call police over concerns the driver was intoxicated.

Police arrived and found Tran exiting his vehicle which had been parked on the footpath.

“Police spoke with Tran who appeared highly unsteady on his feet and with a red face, bloodshot eyes and slurred speech with a strong smell of intoxicating liquor coming off it,” the facts state.

A roadside breath test returned a positive result of 0.194 and Tran was placed under arrest and taken to Fairfield police station where a final result of 0.177 was submitted.

Tran’s lawyer said her client understood his actions could have killed someone and was remorseful for his actions.

“He had been at a party for his sister’s birthday and was making his way back to his house and thought he could drive because of the short distance,” she said.

While she requested for her client to record a non-conviction, Magistrate Imad Abdul-Karim said his offence was “far too serious”.

Tran was convicted and sentenced to a community correction order for 12 months.

He was also ordered to pay a $500 fine, his licence disqualified for six months and must hold an interlock driver's licence for 24 months.
