THE secret to a celebrity-standard spray tan is out — and it’s in southwest Sydney.
Rebecca Colalillo, of Bossley Park, is the spray tanner to the stars — including Australia’s beloved Bachelorette Sophie Monk.
“A make-up artist name-dropped me to Sophie Monk and (American personality) Kelly Osbourne,” Colalillo said. “I started tanning them and they loved it, and it spiralled from there.”
She is not the type to get starstruck, but Colalillo admits working with world-famous faces had its perks.
“It was always about getting in there, getting the job done and making sure the tan was perfect,” Colalillo said.
“It wasn’t until my clients and other people started to say how incredible that was that I said ... I suppose it is.”
The trick is Colalillo’s spray tan solution, which she developed herself.
The Glow by Beca spray tan solution and self-tanner is made in Australia and it has an important point of difference from other popular products.
Monk loves it so much she has taken the Glow By Beca self tan overseas with her while she takes a break from increasing media attention during The Bachelorette’s screening.
“My background is in beauty therapy and I learned most tanning products are high in alcohol, so it makes you brown but also very dry,” Colalillo said.
“I wanted to create something that hydrated your skin at the same time to give clients that dewy, glowing tan.”
For Colalillo, the right solution is 80 per cent of a good tan — and the rest is all in the application. “I’m not heavy-handed,” Colalillo said.
“I’m all about the natural tan where you can’t tell that someone has been sprayed.”
