A FAIRFIELD gymnastics team of girls will compete for NSW at the Australian Championships this month.
Sydney West Gymsports athletes Cassidy Ercole, Zoe McNamara, Alyssia McGurk, Georgia Fragiadakis, Tahlia Hughes, Haley Prince, Tylah Otrupcek, Jasmine Weeks, Emma Gal, Paris McGurk and Jaid Otrupcek were outstanding at the recent NSW titles in women’s artistic gymnastics.
Coach Belinda Vine said they all qualified to represent NSW at the Australian titles in Melbourne.
“Gymnastics is an extremely hard sport at this elite level,” Ms Vine said.
“They all possess the talent and passion for the sport but the commitment to training, dedication to perfecting technique and mental toughness to push on when faced with setbacks or challenges is a culture we have created here at Sydney West Gymsports.”
The young gymnasts competed in the all-round competition with all four apparatus – vault, bar, beams and floor.
They train between 26 and 35 hours a week, six days a week, before and after school.
“We have an amazing team of world-class coaches working with these athletes, and all the girls have incredible support from their families and Westfields Sports High School,” Ms Vine said.
“They push each other to be better every day and we have some extraordinary strong young women here setting the standard, raising the bar and leading the way for future generations.”
