VICTORIAN long distance charity runner Isak Ketsakitis arrived at St Hurmizd's Cathedral (Assyrian Church of the East), Fairfield, to a hero’s welcome on Sunday.
Mr Ketsakitis ran 90km — more than two marathons — from Wollongong to Fairfield over two days to highlight the sacrifices of Assyrians, Armenians and Greeks.
“This run is dedicated to all our ancestors who gave up their lives — Assyrians, Armenians, Pontians and even Syrians (Christians and orthodox) — so we could have a peaceful life,” he said.
Mr Ketsakitis was aiming to raise up to $20,000 for the Assyrian Church of the East Relief Organisation (ACERO). In a letter to the Fairfield community, he called on all Australians to be tolerant.
“Understand the importance of backing a community that has been attacked due to religion,” he said.
