STARS of South West Sydney ballroom danced before a crowd of 400 people, and they did it to raise more than $100,000 for local cancer initiatives.
Nine stars from Liverpool and Fairfield participated in the Cancer Council’s Dance for Cancer, an event that took place last Friday at Fairfield’s Grand Paradiso.
For the Stars, who had been practising with professional partners for the past three months, it all boiled down to one final performance.
Each put their best foot forward before a panel of three judges, which included Liverpool and
Fairfield mayors Wendy Waller and Frank Carbone, as well as Jessica Prince of Dancing with the Stars fame.
Judges chose Fairfield councillor Dai Le as the winner. She danced with Faramarz Shkibaei, who volunteered his time.
But the 400-strong crowd crowned Myrian Fernandez and her partner Nicholas Mountain as winners of the people’s choice award.
The nine stars collectively raised $123,000, far surpassing the Cancer Council’s goal of $100,000.
Vince Movizio, from the Fairfield Chamber of Commerce and Ray White Fairfield, led the effort by raising $24,453, earning him the final award of highest fundraiser.
Other stars include Cassandra Amood, Charishma Kaliyanda, Debbie Hilder, Adam Anderson, Elizabeth Harlow and Michael Judge.
