Ten local clubs pulled out their cheque books last Wednesday at Cabramatta Leagues for the annual Fairfield Club Grants presentation, where representatives for 144 community projects were given vital funding to further community causes.
Cabra-Vale Diggers presented $486,000 in grants to be used for 34 community projects, including a $52,00 grant to the Australian Chinese Youth Sports Federation.
The federation will use the grant to launch the Forever Young Elderly Program, a project that aims to keep pensioners and retirees actively socialising by way of different activities.
Mounties awarded $293,000 to 27 projects, including a $77,000 grant to the Ted Noffs Foundation.
Funds for the grant will be used to launch Liverpool Street University counselling service, a project that aims to provide drug intervention by getting young people involved in art, dance, music and culture.
Dozens of initiatives will kick off across south-west Sydney as a result, including Basketball for Disadvantaged Kids, and Awareness and Self Defence for Women, both by the Police Citizen Youth Club, and Adult Swim and Survive by the Royal Life Saving Society of NSW.
