Specialist police searched a Yagoona home this morning before arresting another man for the alleged assault and murder of Ross Houllis.
The 26-year-old’s arrest is the second to be made in connection with the fatal assault, after a 27-year-old man was charged last week.
“We had a strong police presence at the (Yagoona) home and … he was escorted without incident,” Fairfield Police Superintendent Brett McFadden said.
“We anticipate he will be charged with murder in the course of this afternoon.”
The two men allegedly posed as buyers interested in an item Mr Houllis was selling over Facebook marketplace on February 14 when they seriously assaulted him in a car park at Bulls St, Wakeley.
It is alleged the men dragged him down the road to the vicinity of Goulburn Pl where the assault continued and he was left for dead.
Mr Houllis was rushed to hospital in a critical condition.
Despite the efforts of medical professionals, he succumbed to serious head injuries and died on February 17.
“The tragic circumstances the Houllis family is dealing with is unacceptable,” Supt McFadden said.
Sami Hamdach, 27, handed himself into Bankstown Police within 24 hours of the incident and was charged with grievous bodily harm to person with intent.
The charge was upgraded to murder following Mr Houllis’ death.
Sami presented to Bankstown Local Court and had his matter adjourned. His case is ongoing.
Police said the 26-year-old in custody is in the process of being formally charged with murder. He will present Bankstown Local Court tomorrow, police said.
