Ballina: Padlocked bags filled with drugs allegedly found in boot of speeding car

Police pulling over two men for allegedly speeding on the far north coast have made an amazing discovery during a search of the Honda. Officers will allege the found $475,000 worth of drugs.

Seven duffel bags filled with almost half a million dollars worth of drugs were found in the boot of a speeding car, police will allege after stopping a car in Ballina.

Police officers allegedly spotted a Honda Accord driving 98km/h in an 80km/h zone yesterday afternoon on Pacific Hwy on the state’s north coast and pulled it over.

Police will allege the men were acting suspiciously and decided to carry out a search on the car.

When they popped the boot open, they allegedly found seven padlocked duffel bags filled with 54kg of cannabis. On the streets it would be worth an estimated $475,000, police said.

Trong Sang Le, a 24-year-old man from Canley Vale, and Huu Phuong Phan, a 29-year-old from Cabramatta, were arrested and taken to Ballina Police station yesterday.

Both men appeared before Byron Bay Local Court today, March 4, charged with take part in the commercial supply of cannabis and possess prohibited drug.

They did not enter a plea and did not make an application for bail.

Huu Phuong Phan and Trong Sang Le are next scheduled to appear at Byron Bay Local Court on April 27.
