ELITE data analytics used by top-tier sporting clubs is now available for local teams.

Mt Pritchard Mounties Rugby League Football Club say the analytics took three of its teams into the 2016 premiership finals.

Sports Performance Tracking (SPT) is an Australian sports technology start-up company bringing the data science and analytics of big clubs to a local club level.

Mounties head performance coach Darrin Bortho credited the technology for a 20 per cent increase in three teams’ performances.

“For all the software and statistics that came with SPT’s hardware for $299, it was a no-brainer. We went from having one team in the grand finals last year to all three this year,” Bortho said.

“I would say our strength and fitness levels were a cut above everyone else.

“The tech and statistics were monumental in helping us monitor and improve player fitness during and after the key pre-season.”

SPT allows coaching staff to manage injuries and improve fitness by watching individual athlete’s distance, speed, speed zones, heat maps and top speeds, among other data.

With professional players playing with The Mounties weekly from the Canberra Raiders NRL team, the depth of knowledge provided by SPT allows coaches to optimise performance and monitor injuries.

“It helps us develop the optimum level of intensity for recovery,” Mr Bortho said.

The data is accessible and understandable to teams, without needing interpretation by a professional data scientist.

SPT CEO and founder Will Strange said there was a gap in the market for local clubs.

“It’s been great working with The Mounties and seeing how the tech is paying off for their top teams and their 2016 performance really speaks for itself,” he said.
