A grocery store in Sydney’s southwest has erupted in flames overnight.

About 35 firefighters and 10 fire trucks responded to a blaze at Park Road, Cabramatta about 3am, where they found the Nam Hoa grocery store well alight.

Firefighters, wearing breathing apparatus, entered the building to search for people and the origin of the blaze.

One person was evacuated from an adjoining business.

Fire and Rescue crews contained the fire to the grocery store, with one neighbouring shop suffering smoke damage. A FRNSW spokesman said nine different businesses were affected by the incident.

“We shut down all the power in one business, one business above suffered smoke damage, and we cleared one at top with a gas detector,” he said.

Firefighters on the scene were “concerned” as there was “a lot of smoke in the area”.

“With alot of the businesses, they are heavily secured and (firefighters) had to cut roller doors, break padlocks and bolts and chains to make sure the fire hadn’t been extending,” the spokesman said.

“Fires take hold in all sorts of areas and can be damaging in minutes.”

FRNSW investigators are working with NSW Police forensics to determine the cause of the blaze.

Police declared the site a crime scene and FRNSW accelerant detection dog, ‘Xando,’ is on the scene as part of the investigation.
