Fairfield: Sione Toumoelupe, 21, charged with assault after allegedly beating 73-year old in park
The young man allegedly approached the 73-year old in a park and asked for $5 before punching and kicking him on the ground, according to police.

A 21-year old has been charged with assault after an alleged unprovoked beating of a 73-year old in a park in Cabramatta.
The alleged attacker, Sione Toumoelupe was in Fairfield Local Court today on charges of assault causing actual bodily harm, and aggravated assault with intent to rob.
The court heard that Toumoelupe allegedly approached the 73-year old in Cabravale Park around 3pm yesterday, asking him for $5.
After the 73-year old refused, Toumoelupe allegedly began punching him and demanding the money, the court heard.
Police allege Toumoelupe then continued to kick the 73-year old man while he was on the ground.
Police have said that the two men are not known to each other.
An ambulance took the man to Liverpool Hospital, where he is being treated for fractured ribs and a fractured sternum, as well as extensive bruising.
Magistrate Rabbidge denied bail to Toumoelupe, while acknowledging the 21-year old‘s treatment for mental health issues.
“I sympathise enormously,” Magistrate Rabbidge said.
“But members of the public should be able to live their lives without fear. This was a horrific attack on an elderly Australian.”
Toumoelupe will return to court on May 26.
