Four players from the Sydney Kings basketball team visited Fairfield Primary School on November 22 to play against the school’s team as part of the ‘So You Think You Can Play’ program with No1 Draft Pick Basketball Academy.
The visit is part of a push to take “game night” to the schoolyard including player introductions, an MC and lots of games and prizes.
Kings stars Jason Cadee, Bo Liu, Julian Khazzouh and Dion Prewster were there to test the young players’ skills on the court.
Julian Khazzouh said these visits were a way to reach out to young fans.
“It’s the only opportunity we get to get out to the western schools with the So You Think You Can Play,” he said. “It’s a lot different from when we would just come to schools for a demonstration. This way the kids get to come out and play against us and it’s a lot more fun that way.”
Khazzouh said their new home meant everyone could come and enjoy the game.
“Basketball is for everyone, no matter where you’re from,” Khazzouh said.
“Kings have been heavily based in the city but now that we’re at Qudos Bank Arena, we get to spend a lot more time in the western suburbs,” he said.
“I’m a western Sydney guy myself so I’m glad everyone gets to come out and enjoy basketball, no matter where they’re from.”
