Fairfield Hospital redevelopment takes major step with fresh expansion plans revealed
An expanded emergency room and new operating theatres are slated for a major hospital redevelopment in Sydney’s southwest. See the plans here.
A $630m hospital redevelopment in Sydney’s southwest has taken another step towards becoming a reality, with new designs and floor plans being unveiled as the project is put on public exhibition for feedback.
The plans for Fairfield Hospital revealed on Wednesday show the vision for the facility includes an expanded emergency room, new operating theatres, intensive care unit, foyers and inpatient facilities across six floors.
Designs for the new multistorey building have not yet been finalised, though a new artist’s impression shows a wide entrance with greenery set against a contemporary-looking glass facade.
Health Minister Ryan Park said the redevelopment would transform the hospital campus and improve the health care services “provided by our hardworking staff”.
“We’re building modern health facilities across Western Sydney to support our fastest growing communities now and into the future,” Mr Park said.
“More hospitals, more beds, lower wait times. It’s as simple as that.”
The budget for the hospital’s redevelopment has expanded from an initial $550m after an $80m Commonwealth contribution to expand the emergency department.
Work on the site at Prairie Vale Road is expected to begin in early 2026 pending planning approval.
The redevelopment is one of multiple ongoing projects to expand health services in the region.
The latest state budget allocated $1.3bn to facilities including the new Bankstown Hospital, maternity and birthing services at Rouse Hill Hospital, pathology services and a pediatric hospice at Westmead, and additional beds for Blacktown and Mt Druitt Hospitals.
The early works planning application for Fairfield Hospital site is on display for public feedback until December 19.
