A MAN who terrorised southwest Sydney motorists with a chainsaw in a fit of road rage has been sentenced to at least 12 months in prison.
Today Fairfield Court Magistrate Peter Bugden sentenced tree lopper Alaa El Zien to at least a year behind bars after shocking dashcam footage revealed he grabbed a chainsaw from his ute and revved it aggressively as he walked down the Horsley Dr in Fairfield on April 12.
El Zien had already repeatedly punched a driver whose car had stopped in the middle of the busy road before he brandished the weapon, to the alarm of nearby drivers.
The 25-year-old Padstow man pleaded guilty to one count of affray at Fairfield Court and was sentenced to 16 months in prison with a non-parole period of 12 months.
Police facts tendered to the court said El Zien’s conduct had caused “serious fear and alarm” to members of the public when he first appeared before the magistrate in May.
