Edensor Park: Man sets himself alight at 7-Eleven petrol station

The heat on a trio of alleged thieves became too much when attempting to fuel two stolen motorbikes one man became engulfed in flames, forcing him to rip off his clothes and flee the scene pantless.

The heat on a trio of alleged thieves who, when attempting to fuel two stolen motorbikes at a 7-Eleven, became too much when one man became engulfed in flames after spilling petrol, forcing him to rip off his pants and flee the scene partially nude.

Police are on the hunt for three men who arrived with two allegedly stolen trail bikes at Edensor Park’s 7-Eleven service station about 3:30am on May 30.

The two riders pulled up to separate bowsers however, one of the men became quite erratic while filling up the motorbike’s petrol tank.

Police say he pulled out the nozzle and spilt petrol, causing the trail bike and the man to become engulfed in flames.

The man began to run while his pants were on fire and exposed his privates while attempting to remove his pants, in a scene described by Fairfield police officers as resembling a “human torch”.

The second man grabbed a water can and tried to douse the flames. Once the pants were off. the trio fled on foot and left the alleged stolen trail bikes behind.

Fire and Rescue NSW superintendent Adam Dewberry said crews were called to the scene at 3:36am and had the fire in under 10 minutes.

“There was a fire involving a motorcycle and a petrol bowser that were caught alight and damaged,” he said.

“A car was also damaged by the fire but it could have been from heat damage.”

Police attended the scene and further investigations uncovered that the bikes were stolen from a nearby property.

Police are searching for the three men, one with potentially substantial burns to his legs and torso.
