A man has been hospitalised after a brown snake bit his ankle at a nature reserve in Western Sydney Parklands.

About 9.40am the man, aged in his 30s, was bitten at Lizard Log in Abbotsbury, part of Western Sydney Parklands.

Bystanders applied first aid to the man before NSW Ambulance paramedics arrived at the scene and took over.

“Snake bites are rare and on this occasion it was initially a little tricky to access the patient due to his location,” NSW Ambulance inspector Braden Robinson said.

“As the weather warms up, snakes are going to be more active so take care if you are in areas where they are active.
