A bold plan to revitalise a “dated” logistics centre into a 24-hour multistorey warehouse worth more than $200m is set to generate 350 jobs in south west Sydney.

Centuria Capital Limited has lodged plans for a $213m warehouse and distribution centre with a total floor space of 51,452sq m on 94 Newton Rd inside the Wetherill Park industrial area.

The plans would include a 24,143sq m ground floor warehouse space and a 24,127sq m first floor following the demolition of the two existing buildings owned by Centuria and used by Weir Minerals Group and ITW Proline.

Planners for the development state would revitalise the site which “does not positively contribute to the character or appearance of the area.”

“The current buildings are now dated and fail to optimise the development potential of the site or capitalise on the significant locational advantages that it benefits from,” planners state.

“The proposal will contribute to maximising freight and logistics opportunities within Western Sydney … and make a significant contribution to this by providing 228 construction phase jobs as well as 950 – 1,150 operational jobs.”

A four storey ancillary office building will be located to the north of the warehouse and include a kiosk, gym and recreation room on the ground floor while office spaces, and outdoor spaces will be available on the second floor.

A total of 28 loading docks across both levels will be available for the unconfirmed businesses alongside a carpark with 224 spaces.

Planners for the development state the site is “well connected” to the regional and state highway network inside an “established industrial area”.

“It therefore comprises an optimal location for a contemporary warehouse of distribution centre of the nature proposed,” planners state.

The plans are currently on exhibition and the community have the opportunity to make submissions to the NSW Planning website.
