Eastern suburbs socialites face court in designer fashion

A court appearance is generally a solemn occasion but Sydney’s socialities always ensure it is a fashionable one – donning thousands of dollars in designer clothes to face the music.

While a court appearance is generally a solemn occasion, the socialites, influencers and celebrities of Sydney’s east always ensure it is also a fashionable one.

The sober suits commonly adopted by defendants often come with expensive accessories at Waverley Local Court, where a pricey designer touch is a frequent feature.

Ishana Chandra toted a $12,500 Chanel handbag when she was sentenced for cocaine supply and carrying $1450 in crime proceeds.

Chandra was arrested in March after a man who briefly got in and out of her car was found his two bags of cocaine.

Documents tendered to Waverley Local Court state police then found Chandra with $1450 cash in a Gucci bag, before she stated it was from a spray tanning business and her work as an escort.

She ultimately pleaded guilty to participating in small drug supply and dealing with crime proceeds before Magistrate Michael Barko.

“I’ll try to keep my voice low and calm, and I’m trying to take some deep breaths,” Mr Barko said.

“Who cares about police around the corner — you stopped and picked up a male, he’s found with two bags of cocaine, it took about 20 seconds and you made 500 bucks.

“Yet another story of an intelligent, well educated woman who wanted to engage in nefarious drug supply.”

Chandra was convicted and sentenced to an 18-month community correction order with 150 hours of community service.

Meanwhile, personal trainer Scout Whatmore donned Veja sneakers — worn by the likes of Princess Kate and actor Reese Witherspoon — to be sentenced for a late night bingle in which she left her boyfriend’s bumper strewn forlornly on an eastern suburbs street.

Mr Barko convicted her of negligent driving and fined her $300, and sentenced her to a six-month conditional release order without conviction for driving suspended.

The pair followed in a grand tradition of wearing one’s best designer duds to the eastern suburbs courthouse, also upheld by OnlyFans model and socialite Paris Ow-Yang.

Ow-Yang wore $1590 Dior heels to be sentenced for common assault, two counts of intimidation and property damage after an incident earlier this year.

Phillip Bay hairdresser Paris Coudounellis wore an $800 red Gucci belt to court after she was charged with contravening an apprehended domestic violence order, for which she was convicted and ultimately sentenced to an 18-month conditional release order.
