A man has denied claims of torching nine cars, while his co-accused did not appear in court after allegedly destroying property in May, a court has heard.

Trent Allan Wheelhouse, 36, appeared in Dubbo Local Court on Wednesday pleading not guilty to destroying property valued more than $5000 with fire.

His 36-year-old friend Robert Patrick Mackay has not yet entered a plea.

The vehicles in a storage facility on Yarrandale Rd near Purvis Ln in Dubbo were set alight in the early hours May 25, sometime before 2am, according to NSW Police.

The pair have been granted conditional bail.

Fire and Rescue NSW Superintendent Adam Dewberry confirmed 20 firefighters were on the site working to contain and limit the fire from spreading.

He said there were more than 120 vehicles in the facility.

Emergency services were called to the blaze about 1.45am and it was contained about 2.30am.

Robert Patrick Mackay is expected to make a plea on July 12.

Trent Allan Wheelhouse is to return to court on August 16.
