Dolly Parton enthusiasts will soon descend upon the state’s central west to attend the annual Narromine Dolly Parton Festival.
The festival, which started last year as a way of honouring Dolly’s personality and commitment to helping children learn how to read, is turning into an annual event - attracting fans across Australia.
Festival organiser Susie Rae is looking forward to growth of the event, revealing tickets have almost sold out for the festival on September 30.
Using the words “magical” and “incredible” to describe last year’s event, Ms Rae said thousands of people attended the festival.
This year’s festival will see an array of local, national and international artists at the event, featuring Dubbo artist Tanya Andrew, duo of the Year at the 2023 Country Music Awards in Australia Adam Eckersley and Brooke McClymont.
The show will also include events hosted by drag queen Timberlina and performances by ARIA award-winning comedy artist Buddy Goode, and country performer Kelly O’Brien and The Dolly Show.
There will also be a street party with live entertainment, market stalls, children’s activities, and school performances on Dandaloo St, Narromine, from 10am.
“We had a lot of feedback from the beautiful retailers on the street saying last year’s event was the best they’ve had since before the drought,” Ms Rae said.
“We had visitors from everywhere last year, we had people come in their caravans - it was fantastic!
“We just want to put a smile on everyone’s face ... it’s about injecting back into our economy and keeping our little town going.
“We’re only a tiny community and you know what they say, ‘from little things, big things grow’, and because Dolly has a big heart - I don’t see us going anywhere.”
Ms Rae said her favourite part is witnessing people dressing up for the event.
“The wig, the high heels, the boobs, the glitter and nails - it just makes everyone laugh,” she said.
