CCTV released as investigations continue into fatal stabbing at Dubbo

A second man has been charged with murder following an investigation into the fatal stabbing of a man in the state’s central west earlier this year.

Daniel Fitton, 29, of Campbelltown, was arrested on Tuesday and taken to Liverpool police station where he was charged with murder and breach of bail after police stopped a Toyota Camry on the Hume Hwy.

Fitton appeared before Liverpool Local Court on Wednesday via audio visual link wearing a white hoodie as a female supporter wiped away tears in the public gallery.

Emergency services were called to a home in Margaret Cres, Dubbo, after reports a man had been injured about midnight on August 16.

Police located a 39-year-old man suffering multiple stab wounds to his chest. The man was treated by paramedics, but died at the scene.

Police will allege the man was injured after two men entered the home and stabbed him in bed before fleeing.

Fitton’s lawyer made no application for bail and requested for a one week adjournment for a private solicitor to undertake a bail application. His lawyer also requested for Fitton to receive mental health treatment in custody.

Magistrate Abdul-Karim said Fitton was “charged with the serious offence of murder” and the alleged offence occurred after he was released on bail for another unrelated matter.

Fitton appeared before Campbelltown Local Court on May 2 for common assault, three counts of failing to appear in accordance with bail acknowledgment, stalk/intimidate and contravene a prohibition/restriction in AVO. He pleaded not guilty to all charges.

He was previously granted bail on February 8 which was to continue.

Mr Abdul-Karim refused Fritton bail on the murder charge and adjourned an application to revoke his bail on the unrelated charges to October 25.

The murder charge was adjourned for November 16 at Dubbo Local Court.

Strike Force Honefoss was established to investigate the circumstances surrounding the stabbing. Strike force investigators arrested and charged 39-year-old Mark Peckham with murder last month.

Peckham remains before Dubbo Local Court.
