A Trangie man alleged to have possessed “hundreds” child abuse images has pleaded not guilty to the charges in Dubbo Local Court.
Robert Barber, 39, appeared in court on Wednesday, supported by his mother after he was arrested on August 31 and charged with possessing child abuse material.
The court heard from Barber’s lawyer Bridget Byrnes who requested for the matter to be moved to Narromine Local Court in February, due to its proximity to Trangie.
When Magistrate Gary Wilson asked why the matter couldn’t be heard next month, police prosecutor, Sergeant Adam Corrigan said “there is a lot of material” to work through.
“Hundreds of images that will take some time to view in totality,” Mr Corrigan said.
“The date heard next year is suitable for co-operation in that brief.”
On the last occasion, Barber was granted bail by Magistrate Stephen Olischlager after bail concerns were mitigated by Barber not having access to a mobile phone with internet.
The court also heard that Barber was willing to not be in the presence of a person under the age of 18 unless in the presence of another adult.
On Wednesday, Magistrate Wilson accepted the request to move the matter to Narromine, adjourning the matter to February 7 for a reply to brief.
Barber has been excused from attending.
