A man has been charged after allegedly assaulting a driver and stealing his ute in an alleged violent carjacking at a Bathurst shopping centre.
Raymond Murray, 24, fronted Bathurst Local Court on Monday, charged with aggravated robbery causing bodily harm, assaulting a police officer causing actual bodily harm, and assaulting a police officer without actual bodily harm.
The charges stem from an alleged incident on Sunday, April 27, about 10.35am, when a 44-year-old man parked his ute on the lower-level carpark at Bathurst City Centre and was allegedly attacked from behind by Murray.
Police will allege Murray punched the 44-year-old several times in the head, before jumping into his ute and speeding off.
The man was treated at the scene by NSW Ambulance paramedics before being taken to Bathurst Base Hospital with a suspected dislocated shoulder, cuts and abrasions.
Chifley Police District officers launched an investigation, locating the ute about 6pm and seizing it for examination.
About 11.20pm the same evening, police arrested Murray at a home on Bannerman Cres, Kelso, before taking him to Bathurst Police Station, charging him and refusing bail.
Murray appeared in Bathurst Local Court on Monday before Magistrate Michael Maher where bail was not applied for and therefore, refused.
His case was adjourned to the same court for further mention on Wednesday.
