Police have attended a Dubbo school to speak with a student after they allegedly made online threats to shoot up a school – with one image posted showing the child with a gun.

The alleged threats rocked Dubbo College South Campus after they surfaced online on Wednesday afternoon.

One image posted shows a child wearing sunglasses and allegedly wielding a large, black firearm.

The alleged threats resulted in multiple parents refusing to allow their children to attend school on Thursday.

It has not been confirmed if the firearm featured in the image is real.

“My child is not at school because I did not want them to get shot,” one parent posted.

“I would rather keep my son home and explain the absence than send him to school with an even minuscule chance the threat is real,” another said.

In a statement to parents, Dubbo College South Campus said it was aware of the threats and revealed they were taking them seriously and working with police.

“The safety and wellbeing of all students and staff are the departments highest priority,” the school said.

“At no stage has the safety of students or staff been at risk.

“The school continues to operate as normal and is safe for all students and staff to attend.”

NSW Police told the Daily Telegraph officers visited the Dubbo high school on Wednesday afternoon once the image appeared online via a classroom application.

They said they spoke with the child in the image and investigations were ongoing.

A NSW Department of Education spokesperson said Dubbo College South Campus was continuing to work with police as of Thursday afternoon.

Thursday’s shooting scare follows a May 8 incident in which police were called to the school after reports a person of interest was unlawfully on campus.

The facility was placed into lockdown for sometime.
