A teen has been charged with a string of traffic and property-related offences after a car was well alight under a bridge in a town in the state’s central west.
Emergency services were called to the low-level bridge adjacent to Grenfell Rd, Cowra, following reports a Subaru sedan was well alight about 4.30am on Monday.
Chifley Police District officers attended and commenced an investigation.
A police statement said checks revealed the car was allegedly stolen from a home on Liverpool St, Cowra, between 7.30pm on Sunday and about 4.30am on Monday.
Following inquiries, police were patrolling a street in the town when they stopped and spoke to a 17-year-old boy sitting in a park about 2am on Tuesday.
“The boy was subjected to a search, and police located gloves, a box cutter and keys to a Subaru,” police said in a statement.
He was taken to Cowra Police Station and charged with stealing a motor vehicle, aggravated break and enter dwelling in company to steal, taking and driving a vehicle without consent, custody of a knife in a public place and possession of housebreaking implements.
He was also charged with driving a vehicle on the road while never obtaining a licence, goods in personal custody suspected of being stolen and committing S154C offence and disseminating.
He was refused bail to appear at a children’s court on Tuesday.
