A woman in the NSW western region is now in a stable condition after briefly falling unconscious in an unusual incident involving a backyard pool.

A media release from NSW Ambulance confirmed emergency services raced to the scene of a pool at the corner of Short and Lewis Sts in Mudgee in the state’s western region around 4pm on Tuesday afternoon.

A subsequent statement from NSW Ambulance Inspector Craig Hall confirmed the woman, in her mid-30s, had tried to help her daughter from the pool when she was pulled into the water.

“This seems to have triggered a laryngo-spasm which is a protective mechanism by the body to stop you from breathing in water,” Insp Hall said.

“A bystander has pulled her from the water and we believe she was only unconscious for a

short period of time.”

The woman was initially said to be drifting in and out of consciousness.

The Toll Ambulance Rescue helicopter also responded to the scene before paramedics provided further oxygen and took her to Mudgee Hospital in a stable condition.

“Water related incidents can end in tragedy so it’s great this incident has had a happy ending

and mum can go home to her daughter and loved ones,” Insp Hall said.
