A convicted murderer who failed to adhere to conditions of a strict supervision order, imposed after he got out of jail for killing his former partner, has been sentenced to another eight months behind bars.

Michael John Lidster, 48, relocated to Dubbo last year to start a new life on parole after he was jailed for 18 years for strangling Lisa Marie Sara to death with a hairdryer cord at Cowra in 2002.

Lidster was placed on an extended supervision order for five years which requires him to notify authorities of his whereabouts and undergo mandatory drug testing, among other conditions.

In December, a supervisor from Community Corrections told Lidster to return to his home by 6pm, however he showed up at 7.15pm and did not answer calls or tell authorities where he was.

Lidster, who worked as a gardener, told police he could not be reached and was late because he fell asleep beside a pool.

On another occasion in January, he breached the supervision order again by refusing to undergo a drug test.

In Dubbo Local Court, Lidster was convicted of four counts of failing to comply with the requirements of an extended supervision order.

He pleaded guilty to three breach charges in total, but denied breaching the order by having visitors stay at his home.

Magistrate Brian van Zuylen sentenced Lidster to eight months in prison, backdated to when he was first remanded in custody on January 5.

A non-parole period of 6 months was imposed.

Lidster will be eligible for parole on July 4.
