Luke Glase: Heavily intoxicated Dubbo man on the verge of full time imprisonment after abusing animal

A Dubbo man on the brink of jail has faced the wrath of a magistrate after a drunken night out where he threatened neighbours, hurled a cat through the air and menaced police.

An intoxicated Dubbo man who hurled a cat through the air before resisting and assaulting police is to be sentenced late next month.

Luke Glase, 40, appeared in Dubbo Local Court last Wednesday, pleading guilty to common assault, commit an act of cruelty upon an animal, resist police officer, assault police officer, destroy or damage property and intimidate police officer and two counts of stalk/intimidate intend fear physical harm.

Documents tendered to court reveal Glase threatened two of his neighbours at Ploughmans Rest Tavern in Wongarbon about 5.30pm on July 9.

“Do you know who I am? I am the man who lives across the road,” Glase asked victim one.

Glase made further comments about the victim’s father, saying, “he’s a weak c**t, he won’t fight me, I will pull him out and bash him” before picking up a piece of paper and hitting victim one across the face.

He then told the victims he was “going to follow” them home, with victim one later calling his father and police.

When attempting to leave, Glase stood directly in front of victim two, leaned in close, and said “I am going to bash you tonight”.

After waiting for police at their home, the victims identified Glase as their neighbour and the one who threatened them.

Glase refused to identify himself to police on multiple occasions while intermittently shouting at the victims, “get the f**k out of here” and “have a crack then you boys”.

He continued to yell at officers while asking the victims to come and fight him.

Police moved Glase away before he picked the victim’s mother’s cat and “pushed it into the ground” with “considerable pressure” and “hurled it through the air,” court documents reveal.

In attempting to place Glase under arrest, he pulled away, swearing at officers with OC spray used to no avail as he ran to his property.

Officers then tasered Glase after he tried to go over to the victim’s house, screaming “I’ve had enough of you c**ts, f**k off”.

He again continued to hurl abuse saying, “you c**ts, you know I’ll git ya”.

With more police attending the scene, he was later conveyed to Dubbo Police Station where his behaviour didn’t stop, swearing and threatening police and urinating in his cell.

Last Wednesday, Glase’s lawyer Luke Clark who was “concerned” the section five threshold – where a court is satisfied there is no alternative sentence other than full time imprisonment – was crossed.

“His actions not only crossed the threshold, [you] need a telescope to find where it was,” Magistrate Roger Prowse said.

While accepting alcohol was a significant influence, Mr Clark submitted that due to his inebriation, his client did not know what he was doing.

“Do you want a sentencing assessment report (SAR) or do you want me to lock him up now?” Mr Prowse asked.

“I’ve read all the material … he’s either in straight away, or [you can order a] SAR to see if there’s any additional material that can be handed up.

“This court does not tolerate someone being cruel to animals whatsoever.”

In assessing the material before the court, Mr Prowse questioned Glase’s attitude for attempting to lay blame on the victims involved.

Mr Prowse adjourned the matter until October 26 for a SAR, although noting it was “unlikely” there would be any option other than full time imprisonment.

“It is likely you will be going to jail,” Mr Prowse concluded.
