A Dubbo man who allegedly glassed a NSW Police commander at a wake has been charged with reckless wounding.
Leslie Charles Cobby, 46, was first charged with wound person with intent to cause grievous bodily harm after the alleged glassing took place on June 18.
He has not yet entered any pleas to either charge.
According to court documents, police allege Mr Cobby hit the then-outgoing Orana Mid-Western Police District Commander Peter McKenna in the face with a glass.
The alleged glassing happened at a pub in Dubbo where a group of people had gathered to attend a wake for much-loved Wellington Sergeant Brad Edwards who took his own life.
In court documents, police claimed the glassing was unprovoked, witnessed by numerous people and captured on CCTV.
Mr McKenna needed surgery to repair injuries obtained as a result of the incident.
Mr Cobby, a former police officer who also served in the military, was granted bail.
He did not appear when his case was mentioned briefly in Dubbo Local Court on Thursday.
Defence lawyer Jai Silkman told the court Mr Cobby had made a plea offer to prosecutors and it appeared to be suggested that the original wound person with intent to cause grievous bodily harm charge would be withdrawn and replaced by the reckless wounding charge.
Mr Silkman said it would take “a couple of weeks to settle facts” and the case would remain in the Local Court.
Magistrate Gary Wilson adjourned the case to December 2 when a plea is expected to be entered.
Since the incident Mr McKenna has left Dubbo and taken up a role as an Assistant NSW Police Commissioner and Commander of the Northern Region.
