A woman who denies murdering a farmer in his 70s in 2016 and allegedly feeding his body to the pigs on his property is being heard in a judge only trial.
The trial for Kylie So, 50, has begun in the NSW Supreme Court sitting at Dubbo Courthouse, more than seven years since the crimes allegedly unfolded.
The Crown alleges So murdered 71-year-old Robert Dickie on June 14, 2016 at his property at Elong Elong, 57km northeast of Dubbo.
His family reported him missing two days later - a missing person’s examination was conducted on his property on June 19, where police matched swabs to his toothbrush.
So has pleaded not guilty and her defence lawyer Ian Nash defend the matter to a judge alone trial, along with two Vietnamese interpreters.
The accused was arrested over the alleged murder while living in Auckland in April 2020, and in June that yearwas extradited from New Zealand and charged with murder.
The Crown stated the case was initially reported as a missing person’s case, therefore the investigation in 2016 was not as “thorough” as the examination the following year.
Using a specialised blue light in 2017, a police crime scene investigator found “blood stains” in the underlay of the carpet, bedframe and the mattress of Mr Dickie’s bedroom, which matched his DNA.
The parties argued how much blood volume was in Mr Dickie’s bedroom, with Mr Nash saying the “attempts” of the estimated volume of the blood “demonstrated significant inconsistency and inaccuracy”.
The trial is expected to continue for seven weeks.
