Kevin Carr: Wellington man’s despicable threats to ex revealed

A man sent almost 100 menacing messages to a mother-of-two after she dumped him, including horrific threats to cave her head in and set fire to her house. WARNING: GRAPHIC CONTENT

An abusive Wellington man who got dumped by his girlfriend threatened to put a hole in her head, stab her and burn her house down.

The shocking details of Kevin Thomas Carr’s messages to the woman, a mother of two, were contained in police documents tendered in court after he pleaded guilty to two intimidation charges.

Police said shortly after Carr, 20, and the woman started their four-month relationship, he became emotionally and verbally abusive.

In February the woman took a stand against the abuse and told Carr she wanted to leave him.

According to court documents, he said “if you make a fool out of me I’m going to hurt you” to the woman.

Carr repeatedly threatened the woman in 97 messages sent to her phone.

“I’ll put a hole in your head,” he said.

“Your lucky I don’t come around there and jump on your head now ya mutt.

“You dumb stupid slut I swear on my nan if you don’t reply in the next 30 minutes I’ll come around there and stab ya … I don’t care anymore.”

The abuse escalated as the number of messages sent by Carr increased.

“Don’t let me see you walking around cause I’m gonna cut your head off,” he told the woman.

“I’ll make sure no other mother f***** wants you ya slut, I’ll stab you and anyone you get with, swear on my nan

“Watch yourself … you know how evil I can be an you know what my family is capable of … watch tonight I’ll burn your house down with you in it ya slut.”

The emotional abuse continued in further messages, with Carr raising the issue of self-harm and trying to blame the woman for his behaviour.

“Are we gonna try to fix this or not, if you don’t want me just tell me please don’t make me do something we will both regret,” he said.

“Your trying to make me out to be a bad c*** … stay single ya slut cause I’m gonna cave your f***** head in when I see ya … you fucked me head up as it is do you want me to kill myself or something like that for you to see.”

Police said the messages Carr sent the woman left her too afraid to return to Wellington.

At Carr’s sentencing hearing in Wellington Local Court, defence lawyer Carmen Justice said Carr had a limited record and started an apprenticeship in Dubbo after studying at TAFE.

“Mr Carr is from Moree, he grew up with his nan and pop,” she said.

“He tells me that his father was in custody until he was 17-years-old.

“He tells me he has ambitions to own his own mechanic shop and to go back to Moree and become a role model for the community there.”

Magistrate Stephen Olischlager said while Carr had no history of domestic violence, he directed “a significant barrage of abuse and threats” towards the woman and had to learn how to better handle the end of relationships.

“They should never end with what is in essence domestic violence,” Magistrate Olischlager said.

“Domestic violence comes through the court daily and it’s usually men acting out in abusive, threatening ways towards women.

“The court has to constantly send out a message to the community that it is unacceptable behaviour.”

Carr was convicted and placed on community corrections orders for 18 months which require him to be of good behaviour.
