A man has been granted bail in the state’s west after allegedly having 17 unauthorised guns in his possession. Here’s the latest.

A man has been granted bail at a court in the state’s west after allegedly having 17 unauthorised guns in his possession.

Following an investigation by the Rural Crime Prevention Team, officers conducted a search at a property on Goolma Rd, Guntawang, about 12km southwest of Gulgong at 9.20am this morning, Thursday July 13.

Police seized 14 rifles, three shotguns and ammunition.

Officers arrested Stephen Barry Murray, 57, at the property and he was taken to Mudgee Police Station where he was charged with six offences, including three counts of possessing an unauthorised prohibited firearm, possessing three or more unregistered firearms, using the firearms and possessing ammunition without a licence.

He was refused police bail to appear at Dubbo Local Court later today where he appeared before Magistrate Kasey Pearce who granted Mr Murray conditional bail.

He was adjoured to reappear at the same court on August 1.
