An existing home could be converted into a daycentre and respite accommodation home for people living with disabilities in the state’s central west if a proposal gets the green light.
Empowered Choices Support Services lodged a development application with Dubbo Regional Council to convert a four-bedroom home on Kewsick Parkway, Dubbo, into accommodation and a daycentre.
The office and daycentre would be available for participants and staff to access daily from 7am to 7pm for activities like cooking, domestic skills, arts and crafts and games.
According to the planner, a maximum of 15 participants and five staff members would be on the premises at once.
“The current premises is adequately equipped to accommodate people with accessibility requirements including an accessible bathroom and being a single-level property with no steps or stairs,” the planner said.
“Whilst there are no permanent living quarters, Empowered Choices Support Services is seeking approval for respite based overnight care.
“This will not be a regular occurrence.”
The planner said the service would also transfer the participants to and from the centre.
The proposal is on public exhibition until August 26.
