A Dubbo drug addict who was serving four community-based corrections orders for previous offending when he punched an off-duty cop has told police he’d do it again.
Dylan Stanley, 25, pleaded guilty to one count of assault causing actual bodily harm when he appeared in Dubbo Local Court on Monday.
The self-confessed daily user of ice was with another man in Dubbo’s central business district at 11.50pm on Saturday, when he came into contact with the victim Tobias Postock.
According to court documents, Mr Postock was with friends, walking south along Macquarie Street, when he spoke with another two people about 50 metres from the Talbragar Street intersection.
Police said details about what was spoken are unknown, but after a short time Stanley got up from a seat and punched Mr Postock in the face.
Mr Postock was knocked unconscious and taken to Dubbo Base Hospital for treatment.
Stanley fled the scene and was chased by Mr Postock’s friends before police arrived and tackled him to the ground near the Dubbo Visitors Information Centre.
Stanley was arrested and taken to Dubbo Police Station where he confessed to the assault and told police he was not remorseful.
“He (Mr Postock) was in brother’s face,” Stanley alleged.
“I’d do it again.”
In court documents police said Stanley was “unable to hold back smiling” as he recounted his version of the “one punch attack”.
Stanley was refused bail by Magistrate Gary Wilson and remanded in custody.
He is expected to be sentenced in November.
