An award-winning panel van from the 2023 Summernats hailed from Dubbo.

Dubbo’s Stripped Back Customs owner Brad Pizzi said he was thrilled to be a part of the team which took first place in top van (Elite) at the 35th annual Summernats in Canberra.

Ian Wood’s winning EH Holden panel van, named La Catrina, encompasses a Mexican theme with an airbrush on the tailgate and a “spicy” colour.

The eye-catching colour with the combination of chrome wheels are Pizzi’s highlights of the van.

Pizzi said he was approached three years ago to design Wood’s van.

“After he saw what I did on my personal cars he asked me to build his – and the rest is history,” Mr Pizzi said.

He described Wood as a “very organised” customer as he provided Pizzi with a 10-page brief with photos, designs, and descriptions of the future car.

“We both went through that and things did change a little bit, but he was happy with the end result,” Mr Pizzi said.

“It’s probably been one of the bigger projects Stripped Back Customs have done as we worked on it from start to finish.

“Custom cars, especially built to this level, normally take three to four years, depending on wait time for parts and other factors like our other cars.

“It’s been a great project, and Ian has been a great customer to work with too.”

Having worked on it for three years, Pizzi said it was a “relief” to finish the project and see it unveiled at car events.

“It’s a huge achievement and very rewarding,” he said.

Wood is Sydney based so unfortunately the car will not be seen much on Dubbo streets, however Pizzi has received “support” from local customers about his contribution.

He said Wood was an “ongoing customer” and that car enthusiasts can expect to see more custom creations from the duo in the near future.
